Air India Express Expands Services from Kannur International Airport

  • 2024-05-02

Air India Express has inaugurated new services from Kannur International Airport starting from May 1st, marking a significant milestone in the airport's journey. The airline commenced operations to Ras Al Khaimah, with flights scheduled thrice a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

The inaugural flight to Ras Al Khaimah witnessed a momentous occasion as Mr. Dinesh Kumar, Managing Director of Kannur International Airport Limited, handed over the boarding pass to the first passenger. As a gesture of warmth and hospitality, the airline distributed sweets to all passengers aboard the flight. The flight, carrying 186 passengers, symbolizes a vital connection between North Malabar NRIs and their destinations, providing much-needed relief.

Starting May 2nd, the airline will also introduce services to Dammam, with operations planned for Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Additionally, flight frequencies to Abu Dhabi and Muscat from Kannur Airport are set to increase from May onwards.

Air India Express is deploying new Boeing 737 Max aircraft for these expanded services, enhancing passenger comfort and safety. These developments align with the MoU signed between Air India Express and KIAL, emphasizing the mutual commitment to enhancing air connectivity and facilitating seamless travel experiences for passengers.

Additionally, in a promising start to the summer schedule, April witnessed a 5% surge in passenger traffic at Kannur Airport compared to the previous month. Notably, international sectors recorded an impressive load factor of 86%, while domestic sectors maintained a robust 83%. The momentum is set to continue with the unveiling of these new routes by Air India Express and upcoming flight expansions and aircraft upgrades by IndiGo. Anticipating continued growth, airport authorities are actively pursuing route development opportunities with other Indian carriers, including Akasa and Air India.
