The Sharjah Airport’s strategy was successful in gaining the trust of travelers, and attracting new airline and cargo companies. Over three million passengers travelled in the first quarter of 2022 through Sharjah Airport, witnessing an increase of 119.2% as compared to 1.3 million passengers in the same period last year. International passenger traffic remained limited due to the prolonged impact of COVID19 although the number of arrivals into Japan is on an upward trend with the relaxed border restrictions since March 1. Meanwhile, both domestic flight and passenger numbers for the three airports increased from the previous month since COVID-19 quasi-emergency measures were fully lifted and passenger traffic tends to increase in March toward the start of a new fiscal year. International cargo traffic remained strong, with aircraft movements and cargo volumes continuously exceeding the 2021 levels.
Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) welcomes the Government’s adjustments of the inbound control measures, including adjusting the route-specific flight suspension, lifting the entry restriction for non-Hong Kong residents, and allowing travellers to wait for test result at hotels.
