ACI APAC & MID Provides One-stop Security Briefing to Hong Kong Airport
- 2024-01-12
ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East had the privilege to be invited by Airport Authority Hong Kong to conduct a briefing session on 10 Jan to share the latest development of One-stop Security (OSS) in the Asia-Pacific region and other parts of the world. The session was attended by around 30 participants from both the Airport Authority Hong Kong and the Aviation Security Company Limited (AVSECO).
One-stop Security (OSS) is a concept of removing security screening and controls at the transfer airport. If implemented effectively and appropriately, OSS will not only enhance airport operational efficiency and passenger experience with a smoother transfer process, but also increase overall security standards as resources can be mobilised to other higher-risk areas.
Despite the potential benefits that it can bring to the security and efficiency of the entire air transport industry are widely acknowledged, the implementation of OSS is still limited worldwide, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. Only a handful of countries/territories, including Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Chinese Taipei are currently engaged in OSS with foreign country. There are still a lot more potential for the concept to be more widely adopted in the region.
Over the past number of years, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East has been prompting on the adoption of OSS, which is ultimately a State-to-State decision, as one of the ways to enhance overall competitiveness and operational efficiency for airports. The regional office will continue to do so at international, sub-regional and national level.
