ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East to Introduce Proposal for New Climate Adaptation Study

  • 2024-07-15

ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East hosted an environmental workshop, "ACI APAC & MID Climate Change Adaptation Working Group Workshop" on the 3 July 2024.

Echoing the ACI APAC & MID's Board's resolution in advocating aviation sustainability, this workshop was aimed to introduce a proposed new study on climate adaptation for the region, its outline, objectives, backgrounds, and overall plan for the project, and also soliciting members’ feedback.

Ms. Kristy Tan, Senior Manager for Climate Resilience of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) - leader of the Climate Change Adaptation Working Group, under the ACI APAC & MID Regional Environmental Committee, outlined the objectives and project plan to members, focusing on extreme weather events that are sweeping the world, and the key content of the project such as providing a framework and set of tools for airport climate resilience.

ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East has already produced the Tendering Guideline for Climate Resilience Planning for Asia-Pacific and Middle-East Airports to build on airport operators' understanding of the climate risk assessment.

Read the ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East tendering: https://www.aci-asiapac.aero/f/library/3655/Tendering%20guideline%20for%20climate%20resilience%20planning%20FINAL.pdf guideline for climate resilience planning

Riding on a recent survey conducted among 27 airport members, the group agreed that additional climate risk assessment study should be conducted through an external consultant to establish measures to respond in extreme climate change.

45 participants from across 28 airport operators participated. We are thankful that many attended airports expressed their intention to participate in this project and raised constructive ideas.
