ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Environment Committee Discusses Climate Issues

The 17th Meeting of ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Environment Committee was successfully convened in Kobe, Japan on 14-15 May 2023. The meeting was attended by over 35 environmental sustainability experts from airports and World Business Partners in Asia-Pacific and Middle East region. 

 

The meeting highlights include keynote speech and presentation on airport climate resilience by Mr. Mathieu Boutitie, Corporate Executive Vice President, Kansai Airports. A foresight discussion with guest speakers from Airbus Japan and IATA Asia-Pacific on advanced topic such as Aircraft Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and Hydrogen fuel for aircrafts and infrastructure needed at airports.

 

An interactive afternoon session was spent on joint meeting of ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Environment Committee, Operational and Safety Committee, with constructive outcomes for actions in airport climate change adaptation and waste water management.

 

Other issues discussed were ways to assist smaller airports and Small Island Developing States’ airports and future topics for Green Airports Recognition. The Committee approved Climate Change Adaptation Working Group to work on the next guidance, focusing on TCFD and agreed to support and facilitate SAF at airports with further investigation to costs, demand, availability and ethic integrity.
