ACI Asia-Pacific Speaks at ASEAN Workshop on Air Travel Accessibility for Passengers with Special Needs

  • 2022-10-25

Over the years, the European Union (EU) has been providing technical support to the member States of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the areas of safety, security, ATM and environmental protection through the ASEAN Regional Integration Support from the European Union Plus (ARISE+) project.

One of the most recent initiatives of ARISE+ was a workshop on “Rights of Persons with Special Needs” held from 18-20 October 2022 in Manila. Aimed to raise awareness and facilitate regional cooperation on enhancing air travel accessibility for passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility, the workshop was attended physically and virtually by over 30 representatives from ASEAN Member States and industry associations, including ACI Asia-Pacific and IATA.

ACI Asia-Pacific delivered a presentation on Day 1 of the workshop to highlight the association’s strategy in promoting a sound global regulatory framework on accessibility for air travel and helping airports to be more accessible and inclusive for passengers with special needs through knowledge exchange and best practice sharing. A number of ACI’s initiatives were introduced at the workshop, including:

  • The newly launched Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation Program
  • The 3-day workshop on Accommodating Passengers with Disabilities (APD)
  • The online Certificate in Airport Accessibility
