Airport Traffic Think Tank meets in Vienna to discuss forecast trends

The Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Traffic Think Tank (AT3) convened in Vienna on 13 & 14 June 2024 to discuss the future of air traffic forecasting with artificial intelligence, new entrants of aircraft and manufacturers, sustainability and cargo development. The AT3 is a sub-committee of the ACI World Economics Committee dedicated for air traffic forecasting.

 
Mr. Philip Kwok, Senior Manager, Economics, represented ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East. The group agreed that forecasting is a complex and continuous task that should capture a range of external factors such as geopolitical tensions, macroeconomic factors and technological advancements. Airport traffic forecasting is crucial for airport operators to plan their operations and capital expenditures. It is such an essential element of the airport business to ensure optimal utilization of infrastructure and resources.
 
In addition, the group emphasised the importance of sustainability, stating that as demand for air travel and air logistics increases, the industry must adopt a development approach that safeguards the welfare of the communities it serves.

Mr. Kwok provided insights on the latest air connectivity index, the air fares trend analysis, glimpses into upcoming short-term regional forecast. The meeting saw around 60 experts from across Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America.
