Alstef Group completes Baggage Handling System installation at Princess Juliana International Airport, Sint Maarten

  • 2024-11-05

Alstef Group is pleased to announce the successful completion of the new baggage handling system at Princess Juliana International Airport in Sint Maarten. This essential project, part of the airport's comprehensive recovery and modernization plan following the devastating effects of Hurricane Irma in 2017, was overseen by the World Bank.

The newly installed BHS will play a vital role in supporting the airport's operations as a major gateway to key regional destinations, including Anguilla, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy.

The completed baggage handling system includes:

  • 22 check-in locations
  • Two in-line Standard 3 CT x-ray machines
  • Automated sortation to 3 makeup carousels, powered by Alstef Group’s proprietary BAGSORT software
  • Three new horizontal carousels for the inbound system

The system was installed in multiple phases over the past three years and is designed to enhance operational efficiency, streamline passenger experiences, and ensure secure and effective baggage processing for travellers across the region.

With a legacy of successful projects in the Caribbean—including those in the Bahamas, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, and Martinique—this milestone underscores Alstef Group’s commitment to delivering high-quality, innovative baggage handling solutions worldwide.
