“ACI Asia-Pacific’s new strategic direction is work with our 114 airport members towards a new societal value for the communities they serve. This includes promoting a culture of environmental consciousness,” said Stefano Baronci, Director General, ACI Asia-Pacific. “World Environment Day is a fitting day to thank all participating airports for their ongoing commitment and contribution to environmental protection. The Green Airports Recognition programme fits perfectly into this context by encouraging airport operators across the region and globally to share environmental best practices,” he added.
The Green Airports Recognition programme was established in 2017 with the support from the ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Environment Committee. The programme highlights different environment themes each year. The submissions were reviewed by a panel of judges consisting of:
- Mr. Stefano Baronci, Director General, ACI Asia-Pacific
- Dr. Panagiotis Karamanos, Aviation Environmental Consultant
- Mr. Christopher Paling, Senior Lecturer in Environmental Management, Manchester Metropolitan University
- Ms. Juliana Scavuzzi, Senior Manager, Environment, ACI World
- Mr. Christopher Surgenor, Editor/Publisher, GreenAir Online
“There are excellent projects in this year’s recognition, some combining water management best practices with resilience planning. I was pleased to see many innovative technologies are being applied to water sustainability at airports throughout Asia Pacific,” said Mr. Christopher Surgenor, Editor/Publisher, GreenAir Online.
