Ethiopian Airlines Launches Macau-Madrid Freighter Service with Twice-Weekly Flights to Strengthen Asia-Europe Freight Connectivity

Mr. Chan Weng Hong, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM), and Executive Director, Mr. Lei Si Tai attended the inaugural ceremony of Ethiopian Airlines’ new freighter route connecting Macau and Madrid. Starting from 3rd April 2025, Ethiopian Airlines officially launched its dedicated freighter service between Macau and Madrid, Spain, operated by Boeing 777F aircraft with two weekly flights.

 

The new route will further enhance the air cargo network between Asia and Europe, providing more efficient logistics support for exports from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and boosting the logistics competitiveness of the Bay Area.  The introduction of Ethiopian Airlines will build link from Macau to Europe by freighter, in addition to markets of Asia, Middle East and Americas.

 

 

Ethiopian Airlines, with its fleet of Boeing B777F, B767F, and B737 freighters, committed to continuously expanding its global cargo network. The launch of the Macau-Madrid route reflects the airline’s recognition of Macau International Airport’s cargo handling efficiency and strategic location. 

 

Macau International Airport has seen steady growth in its cargo business in recent years, with the air logistics demand has been driven by the rapid rise of cross-border e-commerce. In 2024, cargo throughput reached 108,000 tonnes. Madrid is one of the key logistics hubs in Europe, the opening of this new route will further meet the growing demand for the air freight, while strengthening the connectivity between the GBA and European markets. It also enriches the international cargo network in Macau and is expected to further increase freight volumes. Macau International Airport will continue exploring further cooperation with Ethiopian Airlines in the future, including potential intercontinental cargo routes, to optimize global logistics network of Macau.
