KIX to Carry Out Comprehensive Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Drill

Kansai Airports will conduct a comprehensive aircraft rescue and firefighting drill at Kansai International Airport (KIX) on October 24, 2024. 

 

This drill, performed annually according to the Kansai International Airport Emergency Plan, is intended to assess preparedness in case of an aircraft accident at or near KIX. Its participants will verify the effectiveness of the Emergency Plan and ensure prompt and appropriate firefighting, rescue and medical activities in close coordination and cooperation with relevant organizations. This year, the exercise will be held in the evening (while a drill simulating a night-time scenario was performed four years ago). 

 

Kansai Airports Group will continue to strive for a safe and secure airport environment for all passengers through a variety of emergency exercises.

Location: (1) Maintenance area (restricted area)
(2) Airfield operation center
(3) Garage next to the observation hall
Organizer: Kansai International Airport Emergency Plan Liaison Council
Participants: Approx. 70 organizations (Kansai Airports, New Kansai International Airport Company, Kansai Airport Office of West Japan Civil Aviation Bureau, Kansai Airport Branch Customs, Kansai Airport 
District Immigration Office, Kansai Airport Quarantine Station, Kansai Airport Coast Guard Air Station, and police/fire/medical organizations)
Scale: Approx. 700 participants, 60 vehicles, 1 aircraft (Cooperation: Peach Aviation Limited) and 2 helicopters (Cooperation: Japan Coast Guard, Osaka Prefectural Police Headquarters)
Scenario: The second engine of an A320 aircraft, for an international flight, caught fire on the runway after landing, resulting in numerous injuries to crew and passengers.
Program: (1) Accident reporting and information sharing, (2) Emergency lanes set-up, (3) Firefighting, (4) Triage and rescue area set-up, (5) Evacuation guidance, (6) Casualty rescue, (7) Stretcher transport, (8) Triage activity, (9) Disaster medical care, (10) Emergency casualty transport, (11) Identification of bodies, (12) CIQ procedures, (13) On-site coordination headquarters activity
