Macau International Airport Passenger Growth 90% in the First Half of 2024

Macau International Airport (MIA) recorded significant passenger growth in the first half of 2024. From January to June 2024, MIA handled over 3.73 million passengers and more than 29,000 aircraft movements marking an increase of 91% and 72% respectively compared to the same period of last year. Compared with the same period in 2019, the number of passengers and aircraft movements have recovered by about 80%. Among them, passengers from the Mainland of China routes and China Taiwan routes accounted for 46% and 17% of the total passenger volume respectively, while passengers on international routes accounted for the rest of 37%. Meanwhile, the daily average number of inbound and outbound passengers reached 20,000 with around 165 daily flight movements in average.

 

The increase in passenger traffic is expected to continue during summer period, and it is estimated that the airport will handle nearly 1.4 million passengers from July to August. In addition, the data showed that the number of international passengers travelled through MIA has reached to 230,000 from January to May 2024, an increase of 2.8 times compared with the same period of last year.

 

MIA actively expand more international routes, there are three new airlines were added to operate routes to Macau in July, including: Korean Air operates route services between Seoul, Firefly Airlines and Batik Air from Malaysia have introduced routes from Macau to Tawau, Malaysia. MIA strives to provide more travel options for local residents and travellers from the Greater Bay Area, and actively cooperates with the Macau SAR Government to expand its share of the international tourism market.
