Macau International Airport Passengers Increase Over 60% during Labour Day Holiday

The five-day May Day Golden Week is over, Macau International Airport (MIA) recorded a total of 908 flights and 109,592 passengers from 1st – 5th May 2024. The peak day occurred on 1st May 2024, with 201 flights and 26,314 passengers.
Compared to the Labour Day holiday in 2023, there was a 59% increase in aircraft movements and 66% increase in passenger volume, in which compared to the corresponding holiday period in 2019, there was an 85% recovery in aircraft movements and an 80% recovery in passenger numbers. In terms of passenger composition during the five-day holiday, passengers from the Mainland of China routes accounted for 44%, passengers from China Taiwan routes accounted for 11%, and passengers from international routes accounted for 45%.
Looking ahead to the second half of the year, Korean Air plans to launch a route from Macau to Seoul in July. It is expected that MIA will increase its number of regular flight services to 29 airlines, including 22 routes connecting to the Mainland of China, 3 routes connecting to China Taiwan and 14 international routes. Passengers will not only have access to direct flights but also benefit from the airline's network of European and American routes, allowing for seamless baggage transfer and convenient travel to their final destinations.
Currently, through airlines such as Air Macau, Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, EVA Air, Starlux Airlines, AirAsia, Scoot Air and Singapore Airlines, passengers can transit from Macau to cities in Northeast and Northwest China, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Russia and India. Additionally, Korean Air also plans to launch a route from Seoul to Lisbon before the end of the year. This means passengers can travel directly from Macau to Portugal via Seoul with Korean Air, serving as a bridge connect the two destinations and providing convenience for tourism, culture and economy.
