Malindo Air joins Melbourne Airport with Daily Flights to Bali

Indonesia is still the top international leisure destination for Victorians and Malindo Air plans on keeping it that way by introducing a daily non-stop service out of Melbourne Airport.

Thousands of holidaymakers will enjoy soaking up the sun when Malindo Air launches its service in June in a move that will boost capacity to Bali by adding 118,260 seats both ways on an annualised basis.

Malindo Air is a full-service Malaysian airline with a strong network in Indonesia flying to major cities such as Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung and Medan.

Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation Simon Gandy said he is pleased to see the increase in capacity on the popular Melbourne-Bali route.

“Since the 2014 financial year Indonesia has been one of the top three international destinations for Victorian holidaymakers and demand to visit Bali has proven to be strong and resilient over time,” said Mr Gandy.

“People fall in love with travelling to Bali - visiting for the scenery, surf, food and nightlife and with non-stop services transporting travellers in just six hours it is easy to see why so many people choose Bali for a getaway.

“Malindo Air’s entry into Melbourne’s network will open up even more opportunities for Victorians to explore other Indonesian holiday islands, such as Lombok, which is known for its pristine beaches.”

Mr Gandy said one of the Melbourne Airport’s strengths is that it operates in a 24/7 environment enabling travellers to fly at a time that is convenient for them.

“We are proud to operate curfew free and this service takes full advantage of that with an early inbound arrival and departure time,” said Mr Gandy.

“We are set for a busy year ahead and to cater for the increase in passenger numbers we are continuing to invest every year, to improve, maintain and grow the front door to our state.

“On behalf of Melbourne Airport I congratulate Malindo Air for introducing this new daily service, Victorians are going to love having more choice and flexibility.”
