Melbourne Airport Celebrates as Air Vanuatu Launches Flights to Port Vila

  • 20 Jun 2019

Air Vanuatu launched its inaugural service in Melbourne this morning flying travellers non-stop to Port Vila.

The service will operate three times per week and connects Melbourne to Vanuatu in just over four hours, creating an easy link for Victorians seeking a tropical escape.

Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation David Hall said he was thrilled to add another city to Melbourne Airport’s network.

“Vanuatu is a popular holiday destination so it’s great to add a service that makes travel to the Pacific island easy and more affordable,” said Mr Hall.

“We know Australians are visiting Vanuatu more than ever before with the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics data showing traveller numbers increased by almost 20 per cent at year end November 2018, compared to the previous two years.

“Air Vanuatu not only flies to Port Vila but also links to almost 30 destinations across the Pacific giving jetsetters plenty of options to explore the region’s stunning sights.

“The service is a big win for Victorian travellers as well as holidaymakers in Tasmania and Adelaide who use Melbourne as a hub to reach overseas destinations.”

Managing Director and CEO of Air Vanuatu Derek Nice is thrilled to see the new service in operation and looks forward to providing greater ease of access between the two cities.

“Air Vanuatu is excited to commence our new direct service this week from Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport to Port Vila, Vanuatu. This new direct morning flight - which has guests arriving to Vanuatu by lunch time – is a great opportunity for Victorian travellers to explore our idyllic island nation and immerse themselves in the Melanesian spirit from the moment they step on board.”

The route will be served by Air Vanuatu's Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
