Newcastle Airport Raises Final Roof Beam Tomorrow in a Crowning Moment for the Terminal Expansion

Newcastle Airport CEO, Dr. Peter Cock will host Federal Member for Paterson, Meryl Swanson MP and dignitaries from across the Greater Hunter Region for the historic signing and placement of the final roof beam in the expanded terminal tomorrow, 3rd of October 2024 from 9:00AM.

 

Dr. Peter Cock, Federal Member for Paterson, Meryl Swanson MP and representatives from key regional organisations including Hunter Joint Organisation, Business Hunter, and the Committee for the Hunter will visit the terminal expansion construction site tomorrow to sign the final roof beam and see it raised into place.

 

The ‘topping out’ ceremony includes the raising of a native tree with the final roof beam marking the completion of the building’s frame and symbolising growth and sustainability.

Dr. Peter Cock and Meryl Swanson MP will be available for interviews.

 

WHEN: Thursday, 3rd of October 2024

  • 9:00am for filming of initial VIP signing of the beam
  • 9:45am for commencement of Topping Out Ceremony

Proceedings include:

  • Address by Newcastle Airport CEO, Dr. Peter Cock and Chair Jude Munro AO.
  • Address by Federal Member for Paterson, Meryl Swanson MP
  • Signing of the final roof beam by dignitaries.
  • Final beam raising and placement with native tree.
  • 10:30am Ceremony concludes

WHERE: Newcastle Airport, Williamtown NSW

Media are requested to park in short stay car parking lot. A representative of Newcastle Airport will meet you upon arrival outside the Arrivals Lounge. Footwear needs to be close toed and no high heels as site tour is of an active construction site.

 

On track for completion mid-2025, the terminal expansion is a critical step towards achieving Newcastle Airport’s aim to grow the airport the region deserves. 

 

Dr. Peter Cock said this achievement belonged to the region. “It is through our collective alignment and support that we have reached this significant milestone, Together, we are creating a piece of infrastructure that will serve and uplift NSW and our region for generations to come.”

 

Recognising the national significance of the terminal expansion project, the Australian Government committed $55 million for the new terminal and an additional $66m towards strengthening the runway to accommodate long range civilian aircraft, which will support the vital aviation infrastructure, grow tourism and transition the airport to a world-class facility connecting the Hunter with the rest of the world.
