Post-COVID Record Predicted for Brisbane’s International Terminal - Busy Easter Travel Period Kicks Off

Brisbane Airport is predicting up to 15,000 passengers to pass through its International Terminal tomorrow (Sunday), representing a new post-COVID record, with international services boosted by 77% compared to this time last year.
 
With Easter traditionally being the busiest time of year for Queensland’s tourism industry, the rebound in international visitor numbers is good news for Queensland jobs and the economy.
 
"It’s fantastic to be seeing so many international tourists visiting Queensland, and supporting the State’s tourism recovery," said Stephen Beckett, Head of Public Affairs at Brisbane Airport.
 
"Around 75% of Queensland’s international arrivals transit through the Brisbane Airport, so when Brisbane Airport is busy, the State’s tourism businesses get busy," he said.
 
"Queensland’s economy is powered by tourism, and we are expecting to welcome more than 1.4 million people over the Easter holiday period, with the tourism industry supporting more than 207,000 jobs, or 1 in 12 of all people employed in Queensland." Mr Beckett said.
 
Greater international capacity is also good news for Queenslanders travelling abroad.
 
According to Mr Beckett, thousands of Aussies are dusting off their passports after COVID, reconnecting with family and friends, and ticking off their bucket lists.
 
"It’s terrific to see so many happy people on their way to a well-deserved holiday."
 
"There is still a way to go for full recovery. International passenger numbers are only around 68% of what they were before the pandemic, but we are working hard with our airline partners to add more services at every opportunity we can." 
 
Domestic airline capacity is also up by 2% compared to last Easter, with the Airport recommending passengers arrive at the terminals early.
 
With so many people travelling this month, we do ask domestic travellers to arrive 90 minutes before domestic departures, and 3 hours prior for overseas travel, so that you build in a buffer to cope with busy roads, parking, terminals or delays to your Uber or taxi," Mr Beckett said.
