Promotional Event for Closed-loop PET Bottle Recycling; 7-Second Bottle-to-Bottle Challenge in KIX
- 2024-02-02
Kansai Airports is excited to announce the “7-Second Bottle-to-Bottle Challenge in KIX”(*1) to be held at Kansai International Airport (KIX) to promote closed-loop recycling(*2) of used PET bottles.
Participants in this event can take on a challenge of completing three sorting steps of the bottle-to-bottle recycling in seven seconds. Successful challengers get a chance at “Cap-as-Coin Gacha” for special prizes, such as KIX original goods.
Kansai Airports Group has set the environmental plans: Environmental Vision 2050 and Environmental Targets 2030. One of the pillars in the plans is “circular economy”, key initiatives of which are to reduce the use of plastic, to shift away from plastic, and to work on bottle-to-bottle recycling. Dedicated collection boxes for the bottle-to-bottle recycling were placed at 6 locations in KIX in July 2023. This event aims to encourage as many customers as possible to learn about the bottleto-bottle recycling and its sorting steps. Kansai Airports Group will continue to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by propelling activities for decarbonization, a circular economy, and environmental symbiosis.
*1 The 7-Second Bottle-to-Bottle Challenge is an initiative of Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Inc. that supports this event at KIX.
*2 Closed-loop recycling of PET bottles: To recycle used PET bottles as raw material for new PET bottles. This circulation of materials can contribute to the reduction of the use of fossil fuel-based resources, such as oil, and CO2 emissions.
