Three Million Reasons for Queensland to Shine

Almost three million people will pass through Brisbane Airport this holiday season as travellers make the most of the first restriction-free Christmas and New Year in years.  
 
The busiest times in the Domestic Terminal (6am-9am and 5pm-7pm) will be at 100% of pre-Covid passenger levels during the holiday period, with around 55,000 people passing through the terminal on peak travel days.
 
"A Queensland holiday remains at the top of Australian’s Christmas wish list, with Brisbane Airport planning to welcome millions of visitors from Victoria, New South Wales and from right across the country this festive season," according to  airport spokesperson, Stephen Beckett.

"The top Queensland 5 destinations are Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton and Proserpine", he said.
 
At the International Terminal, daily passenger numbers forecast to be the highest since pre-Covid 2019 levels. 

More than 14,000 International passengers are forecast on peak days, around 60% of pre-Covid levels. Until now, the busiest day since 2019 was in September this year with 12,300 passengers. 

"Flights to and from Canada, the US, New Zealand, and Europe via Singapore and the Middle East are experiencing strong demand, which is terrific news for jobs and our tourism recovery, with approximately 75% of international visitors arriving in Queensland coming through Brisbane Airport", said Mr Beckett.  

"Aussies will be on the move over the holidays with most visiting friends and family, and ticking off their bucket lists after not flying for two or three years".
 
"In addition to visiting domestic treasures such as the Great Barrier Reef, the Whitsundays, and the beaches of the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, Queenslanders will be travelling to holiday favourites such as Bali, Fiji, New Zealand, North America and Europe".
 
"With so many people travelling these school holidays, it will be important to plan ahead" Mr Beckett warned. 
 
Travellers are reminded there are strict government rules on what can and can’t be taken onboard or in carry-on luggage, particularly on international flights.
 
"We recommend people familiarise themselves with the limits on liquids, gels and powders by Googling "can I pack that" and visiting the Civil Aviation Safety Authorities’ (CASA) website for guidance".
 
"A reminder for families, if you’re carrying toys or Christmas presents, some items like Nerf Guns and replica objects may look like weapons to security screeners, requiring removal and rescreening of bags, causing delays."
 
Mr Beckett strongly recommended travellers avoid wrapping presents before screening.
 
"The last thing we want is for travellers to be required to reveal Christmas gifts in front of the kids, as this might ruin Santa’s mystique!’ he said.
 
Top tips to plan ahead and ensure smooth travelling through BNE:
 
•    Arriving at the Domestic Terminal 90 minutes prior to departure
•    Arriving at the International Terminal 3 hours before a flight
•    Booking taxi and rideshare in advance as some travellers have reported delays
•    Consider use the Airtrain
•    Booking car parking as far in advance as possible, as demand has surged at BNE, with more people opting to drive
•    Checking in online with your airline in advance
•    Skip the ‘bag drop’ - consider carry-on luggage only, however we appreciate that’s not always possible
•    Familiarise yourself with what items can be packed in luggage and visit CASA’s ‘can I pack that?’ page
•    Ensure travel documentation such as passports, Visas and travel insurance is up to date and valid.

"International capacity will be further boosted in the coming weeks with increased flights to New Zealand, and non-stop services between Japan and Brisbane recommencing, further establishing BNE as a hub for Queensland’s job generating tourism industry," said Mr Beckett.
