This week, the global community of airport innovators, start-ups, visionary thinkers, researchers and top tech minds gathers at Rome Fiumicino Airport for AIRPORTS INNOVATE 2024. The conference, organised jointly by ACI EUROPE, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East and ACI World, and hosted by Aeroporti di Roma, will chart the future of air travel, pooling innovative solutions, groundbreaking tools and know-how from across the globe.
Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Asaker, Chief Commercial Officer of Riyadh Airports Company, has been appointed as the new Chair of the Regional Economics Committee, succeeding Mr. Nagy Abu Zeid, Vice President of Corporate Planning at Oman Airports, who served two successful terms. Concurrently, Ms. Leena Faraj, Vice President of Strategy and Business Improvement at Bahrain Airport Company, assumes the role of Vice Chair, succeeding Mr. François Southarewsky, Chief Commercial Officer Aero at Kansai Airports.
At the ICAO Workshop on Airports and Air Navigation Services Charges, hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Qatar, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East called for more effective economic regulation strategies that can enable socio-economic growth, sustain operational excellence, and meet future capacity needs while maintaining a sustainable, competitive aviation ecosystem.
In June 2022, Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) issued the 14th Five-Year Plan for General Aviation Development, which contains the roadmap for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) development, particularly, the development of the low-altitude economy, which refers to a comprehensive realm of industries center around civil-manned and unmanned aerial vehicles below 3,000 metres in altitude, including manufacturing, flight operations, and other integrated services.
ACI Aisa-Pacific & Middle East have embarked on a number of research initiatives that shed light on the significance of air connectivity in driving economic and social development, identified key factors that influence changes in air connectivity, and proposed recommendations to enhance airport connectivity and advocate for greater liberalisation.
The 20th ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East Economics Committee (the Committee) met in Muscat, Oman between 19 and 20 November 2023.
The ACI World Expert Group on Slots (EGS) convened in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on 11 and 12 November 2023. This gathering of industry leaders was dedicated to exploring a multitude of crucial topics related to slot allocation. Among the top priorities was determining the most effective approach for incorporating the latest additions to the Worldwide Airport Slot Guidelines (WASG), ensuring that global aviation operates smoothly and efficiently.
ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East reiterated its position regarding the efforts of airports in decarbonisation and the importance of Sustainable Aviation Fuel at airports at the EU-SEA CCCA CORSIA Project “Workshop on Development of SAF Policies and Regulations”.
At the CAPA India Aviation Summit in New Delhi on the 22 March 2023, ACI Asia-Pacific DG Stefano Baronci delivered a key note address at the Summit.
Speaking at the Routes Asia 2023 Powerhouse Panel: State of the Industry, ACI Asia-Pacific Director General Stefano Baronci presented the recovery trends of traffic and cargo in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region.
