This week, the global community of airport innovators, start-ups, visionary thinkers, researchers and top tech minds gathers at Rome Fiumicino Airport for AIRPORTS INNOVATE 2024. The conference, organised jointly by ACI EUROPE, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East and ACI World, and hosted by Aeroporti di Roma, will chart the future of air travel, pooling innovative solutions, groundbreaking tools and know-how from across the globe.
Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) has reiterated its call for economic sustainability and financial resilience as critical components for infrastructure development to support the expected growth in the region’s air transport sector.
In a significant milestone, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East inked a Memorandum of Understanding with Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) to run a pilot to support the airport establish a comprehensive framework on environmentally sustainable initiatives to achieve its Net Zero emissions goals.

Ten frontrunner airports certified at the new Level 5 of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, having achieved net zero for emissions under their control and affirmed a strategic commitment to achieve decarbonisation across all scopes by 2050.

Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific today announced the results of the Green Airports Recognition (GAR) Programme 2023, recognising 12 airports in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East for demonstrating outstanding accomplishments in their sustainability projects.
A total of 64 airports in Asia-Pacific and Middle East have collectively contributed towards 162,623 tonnes of carbon reduction (Scope 1 & 2), according to the ACI Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) Annual Report 2021-2022 . This is equivalent to the CO2 emitted during the production of close to 24 million cotton t-shirts.
Following the global agreement on achieving net zero carbon emissions in aviation by 2050, ACI Asia-Pacific presented a policy paper on decarbonisation at the 6th ICAO Conference for Director General of Civil Aviation for the Middle East in Abu Dhabi, calling for enhanced government support for airports to achieve net zero goals.
