The topic of rising airfare trends was one of the focal points of discussions among airport leaders during the Board Meeting of the Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID), hosted by Cambodia Airports, in Phnom Penh.
Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) today published the air traffic figures of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) for April 2023. During the month, HKIA handled 3.1 million passengers, marking a year-on-year surge of around 24 times. Compared to the same month last year, flight movements more than doubled to 21,545, while cargo throughput declined by 7.7% to 347,000 tonnes.
On 9 May, Taoyuan Airport’s 2023 traffic volume exceeded 10 million, a milestone after the Taiwan government opened its border on 13 October 2022. Since the adoption of open border policy in the end of 2022, Taoyuan Airport’s average daily passenger number kept growing, reaching 910,000 in April 2023. The current daily traffic is 68.6% of the 2019 level. We expect the overall 2023 passenger traffic to reach 28 million, which is 58% of the 2019 peak, 48 million.
GMR Hyderabad International Airport, operated by GMR Airports Ltd., has achieved a global feat by recording the most punctual airport in the world. In a recently released report by the aviation analytical firm Cirium, GMR Hyderabad International Airport recorded 90.43 percent On-Time Performance, for the month of March’23. HYD airport is the only airport in the world to cross the 90 % mark.

Hamad International Airport (DOH) continues to showcase impressive numbers following a hugely successful year in 2022, achieving a further increase in passengers flying to and from the airport in the first quarter of 2023 by recording a 44.5% increase in passenger traffic and 18.65% increase in aircraft movements from the same period last year.
2023 Labour Day holiday is over. The traffic volume of Macau International Airport (MIA) is about 65,888 passengers and 572 aircraft movements from 29th April to 3rd May 2023.
Sharjah Airport has welcomed more than 3.8 million passengers in the first quarter of 2023, recording a 28.01 per cent increase over the same period in 2022, and is expected to achieve even higher growth rates by the year’s end due to its notable services for passengers. The aircraft movement for the same term also increased by 9.02 per cent, with 23,261 flights by the end of March, compared to 21,336 flights during the same period last year.
The international passenger traffic is making further recovery, similarly to last month, especially with foreign passengers (58% from March 2019), exceeding 1 million in a single month for the first time in three years and one month since February 2020. The total passenger traffic for the three airports reached 99% recovery from March 2019, a highest ratio since COVID-19 pandemic started (March 2020). The international cargo aircraft movements and volume were both slightly below the levels of last year.
Kansai Airports today announced a forecast of international passenger traffic, Japanese and nonJapanese combined, at Kansai International Airport (KIX) during the coming Golden Week (forecast for 10 days from April 28, 2023, to May 7, 2023).
