The topic of rising airfare trends was one of the focal points of discussions among airport leaders during the Board Meeting of the Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID), hosted by Cambodia Airports, in Phnom Penh.
International passenger volume, especially non-Japanese passengers, is on a steady recovery trend, same as the previous month, reaching around 53% compared to FY2019, and the total number of passengers is recovering to about 43% of the FY2019 level.

Dubai International Airport (DXB) has registered a year of strong recovery and consistently robust growth in its customer base that propelled the annual passenger numbers to 66 million in 2022. Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) today announced the air traffic figures of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) for January 2023. During the month, passenger throughput at HKIA registered around 2.1 million, marking a year-on-year surge of around 28 times. HKIA handled over 80,000 passengers daily at peak, representing around 40% of pre-pandemic levels. Flight movements saw a year-on-year increase of 34.9% to 16,215, while cargo throughput dropped 26.4% to 288,000 tonnes compared to the same month last year.
Thunderstorms are currently impacting South East Queensland including Brisbane Airport.
With the threat of lightning easing at Brisbane Airport, travel is resuming. Ground operations were put on hold around 3pm due to the safety risk for people on the tarmac.
In great news for Queensland’s tourism industry, Korean Air will fly to Brisbane five times a week, with Korean tourists set to inject more than $120 million dollars into the local economy each year.
