Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID), an association representing 624 airports, delivered two important presentations at the ICAO Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for Middle East region in Riyadh, highlighting the critical need for enhancing air connectivity and seamlessly integrating Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) into the current air transportation framework.
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport managed and operated by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), has emerged as the most preferred transit hub for domestic and international passengers. The direct connectivity of Delhi Airport with 142+ domestic and international destinations in six continents has made it the most preferred transit hub for Indians as well as passengers from neighbouring South Asian countries.
Mangaluru International Airport dedicated its Integrated Cargo Terminal (ICT) for public use on May 1. Spread over an area of 1,891 sq.m, including 1,200 sq mt area for international cargo and the rest for domestic, the ICT can manage 9,000 tonnes of international and domestic cargo per annum. The airport started operations at the ICT by managing domestic inbound and outbound cargo on the opening day and international cargo will follow suit.
The $110 million project will include significant upgrades to the airport's existing terminal building, providing a world-class passenger experience for the region. Dr Peter Cock, CEO of Newcastle Airport, expressed his excitement about the project. Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) is on track to open in late 2026 with plans to grow in stages to become Sydney’s major airport and one of the biggest gateways to Australia. It's against this backdrop that the new airport has chosen Amadeus as its strategic airport systems technology partner to co-create the digital passenger experience of the future.
ZIPAIR (IATA code: ZG) will launch a new service between Narita and Manila on July 1, 2023. The Manila service will be the airline's 8th route based at Narita Airport and its third destination in South East Asia alongside Bangkok and Singapore. Manila is the capital city of the Philippines and is gaining popularity not only for tourism but also as a place to study abroad, and as demand for travel from Japan increases, the number of visitors from the Philippines is also expected to increase further. We recommend this service as a new travel option for summer vacation leisure, overseas study or work, or for visiting friends and relatives.
For the first time since the pandemic, long-haul flights between Auckland and North America are set to exceed 2019 levels, with a planned 11 per cent increase in flight numbers to those destinations next summer, compared to pre-pandemic.
The Labour Day holiday is approaching. It is expected that about 9 million passengers travelling by air during Labour Day holiday according to data from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). In terms of air passenger markets, domestic and foreign airlines are expected to operate 3,500 international flights during the Labour Day holiday, while it is estimated that domestic flights will reach 65,000 and the supply of capacity is expected to exceed the level of the same period in 2019.

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) will be the host airport for the World Cargo Symposium (WCS) in 2024, as announced by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) today. The 2024 edition of the WCS is scheduled for 12 to 14 March at AsiaWorld-Expo and is expected to attract over 1,000 attendees from around the world.
