Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID), an association representing 624 airports, delivered two important presentations at the ICAO Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for Middle East region in Riyadh, highlighting the critical need for enhancing air connectivity and seamlessly integrating Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) into the current air transportation framework.

Due to the prolonged decline of overseas travel demand caused by COVID-19 pandemic, the international passenger aircraft movements continue to remain low. However, the domestic passenger aircraft movements are gradually recovering to pre-COVID level triggered by factors such as easing of outing restrictions.

According to Airport International Group statistics, Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) welcomed 3,248,467 passengers (PAX) during the first half of 2022 - 21.7% lower than the same period in 2019. QAIA also registered 31,547 aircraft movements (ACM) and 29,148 tons of cargo - representing 17.0% and 40.5% declines, respectively, compared with H1 2019. Meanwhile, during the month of June, QAIA handled 711,983 PAX, 6,211 ACM and 5,673 tons of cargo - marking decreases of 14.9%, 17.1% and 30.1%, respectively, as opposed to June 2019.
