This week, the global community of airport innovators, start-ups, visionary thinkers, researchers and top tech minds gathers at Rome Fiumicino Airport for AIRPORTS INNOVATE 2024. The conference, organised jointly by ACI EUROPE, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East and ACI World, and hosted by Aeroporti di Roma, will chart the future of air travel, pooling innovative solutions, groundbreaking tools and know-how from across the globe.
Certificates were awarded to the first batch of Area Control Procedural (ICAO 055) Course conducted locally at Velana International Airport today. The 8 weeks course was done for 8 Air Traffic Services staff at the ATS simulator class room.
Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited, the Airport Operator of Yangon International Airport, announced that Myanmar’s Department of Civil Aviation issued the Aerodrome Certification for YIA, according to the national requirements and in compliance with ICAO orientations for all its state members.

ACI Asia-Pacific announced today that Ms. Patti Chau will step down from her current role as Regional Director at the end of this year. A global search for her successor will be undertaken.
On April 17th, Zunyi Xinzhou Airport, the second largest airport in south China’s Guizhou Province, launched its airport operation center (AOC) which was developed and installed by VariFlight, a leading aviation data technology provider.
Hamad International Airport (HIA) celebrated World Art Day by organizing a community engagement initiative with Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar) students. The initiative was aimed at spreading awareness on creative activity across the globe.
Passenger traffic across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East recorded growth in January at +5.6% and +1.7% respectively. China overtook India, generating the highest passenger traffic growth in the region with approximately +8.1% increase from last year.
Sharjah Airport received Turkish Airlines’ inaugural flight from Istanbul. Starting in April, the airline will operate a daily flight to Sharjah Airport from Istanbul New Airport.
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) saw continued growth in all three traffic categories in March 2019. Passenger volume rose by 0.3% to 6.4 million compared to the same month last year, while flight movements increased by 1.3% to 36,735. Cargo throughput recorded year-on-year growth of 0.2% to 432,000 tonnes.
