Airports Vanuatu: Passengers' Results November 2022

  • 2022-12-09

Airports Vanuatu Ltd (AVL) wishes to provide an update to our stakeholders on our operations in November 2022.

November saw a continuation of international services although passenger throughput was down on October. Nearly 42,000 domestic and international passengers processed through AVL’s three airports in the month.

Jason Rakau, CEO of AVL said, “It was pleasing to see post-Covid air travel peak in October, with 48,000 passengers passing through AVL’s airports, supported by seat capacity from our airline partners. This illustrated the latent demand in the market. November’s seat capacity was reduced and passenger numbers similarly declined”.

“This week AVL has enjoyed participating in the Civil Aviation Authority of Vanuatu (CAAV) celebration of ICAO’s International Day of Civil Aviation. AVL applauds the CAAV for the initiative to recognise the hardworking personnel behind air transport and our aviation industry. Our team very much enjoyed participating in the parade and contributing to the day”.

November 2022’s passenger results
During November 2022, nearly 42,000 passengers passed through AVL’s airports.
•    Domestic passenger movements for November comprised 23,500 departures and arrivals across AVL’s three airports. The graph below illustrates cumulative domestic passenger movements at the three airports, which bottomed out in March 2022 following the arrival of Omicron in Vanuatu.

•    International visitor air travel recommenced from the border opening on 1 July 2022.
•    In November 2022, 18,450 international passengers processed.
•    During October 2022, the post-Covid record was broken, with 22,750 international passengers processed.

Rowland Kalsong, Group Head of Operations commented, “Recent weeks have been impacted by fleet variations and passenger movements in November were down as a result. The record-breaking month of October illustrates that underlying demand is present. As we approach the peak domestic period over Christmas and New Year, AVL will be working with our airline partners and on-airport agencies and stakeholders to deliver the smoothest possible air service to our passengers”.
