- 2024-12-12
Chairman of the Executive Committee of Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM), Mr. Chan Weng Hong and the delegation attended the 2024 Chairman’s Meeting of the Five Airports of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (A5), hosted by the Guangdong Airport Authority on 12th December 2024. A memorandum was signed during the meeting.
The theme of this meeting was “Jointly Promoting High-Quality Development of the Low-Altitude Economy in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area”. Leaders and representatives from each airport delivered speeches and made suggestions on this topic. Director of Marketing Department of CAM, Mr. Eric Fong discussed the advantages and challenges of developing the low-altitude economy in Macau and proposed feasible development ideas. He pointed out that under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework, Macau enjoys the advantage of self-managing its airspace, which facilitates airspace management. Additionally, the low tax policy attracts foreign investment, promoting the development of drones and flying cars. The application scenarios for the low-altitude economy are broad, including tourism and rescue operations, which can improve public service efficiency and enrich the tourist experience.
However, the unique geographical position and management system of Macau pose limitations to its development. In the long run, it is necessary to address customs and border inspection issues and rely on cooperation among the governments and industries of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau to improve relevant laws and regulations for comprehensive application in the Greater Bay Area.
The low-altitude economy holds strategic significance for Macau. As its development continues, Macau will fully leverage the convenience of coordinating its airspace to inject new vitality into the joint promotion of high-quality development of the low-altitude economy in the Greater Bay Area.
