Dubai Airports Partners with Local Conservation Leader OneHive to Promote Preservation of the UAE's Honeybee Population and Nature Reserves

Dubai Airports and OneHive have agreed to partner on a new initiative to promote the preservation and conservation of the UAE's honeybee population, a shared commitment to advance the broader national sustainability vision and promote the Hatta region as an emerging ecotourism hub.
 
OneHive is one of the largest honey producers in the region and a leading voice in the preservation and education of the honeybee in the UAE. Operating under the stewardship of H.E. Engr. Sheikh Salem Bin Sultan Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman, OneHive combines responsible apiculture with a wide range of education efforts on the important role honeybees and other pollinating insects play in advancing biodiversity, food security and achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
 
Dubai Airports and OneHive formalised the intent to establish this new partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at Dubai Airshow 2021 by Eugene Barry, Executive Vice President – Commercial at Dubai Airports, and H.E. Engr. Sheikh Salem Bin Sultan Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman, OneHive.
 
Through its partnership with Dubai Airports, OneHive seeks to create an educational installation within DXB that will raise awareness of the value of bees to the environment and food chain and showcase the benefits of beehive-based products to achieve healthier lifestyles.

The DXB installation will also showcase the OneHive Honeybee Garden and Discovery Center in Hatta, a hands-on education and experiential learning center advocating for sustainable apiculture, dispelling negative attitudes about bees, and promoting pollinator-friendly conservation practices. Leveraging foot traffic at DXB to enhance the visibility of the OneHive Honeybee Garden and Discovery Center will contribute to the government effort to establish Hatta as a leading ecotourism hub in the region to advance the social and economic development of the area. 
 
Barry said: "Our partnership with OneHive will introduce an engaging learning opportunity to millions of travellers at DXB, including insights into the vital role that bees play in diverse ecosystems, and promoting healthy, natural locally-sourced products. There will also be an opportunity for direct action within Dubai, in which this partnership advances Dubai Airports environmental and social partnership goals, while contributing to the UAE's Net Zero 2050 commitment."
 
H.E. Engr. Sheikh Salem Al Qasimi said: "Working with Dubai Airports will help OneHive achieve its ambition to help position the UAE as a global center for carbon neutral and eco-friendly initiatives while maintaining a sustainable environment for the honeybee supporting education and economic growth. It will enable OneHive to expose millions of travelers to our vision for preserving the honeybee population globally and help us attract more tourists to experience the unique and environmental wonders of Hatta and the UAE."
