Fijian Prime Minister Endorses 2025-2048 Nadi International Airport Airside Master Plan

Fiji Airports presented the Nadi International Airport Airside Master Plan to the Prime Minister and Minister for Public Enterprises, Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka, today.
The Hon Prime Minister was delighted with the presentation and following his endorsement, has thrown the Government’s full support towards the realisation of works behind the master plan.
Hon Prime Minister has also emphasised the importance of stakeholders working closely together to address the current capacity constraints in Fiji’s travel sector.
“There is to be no compromises in this area as Fiji continues to experience remarkable visitor arrival,” the Prime Minister said.
“It is important for us to create a lasting impression about visitors great experiences in Fiji.”
The Master Plan is designed to cater for the escalating growth in passenger and cargo traffic in the country and aligned with the Fiji Airports purpose to become the leading aviation hub in the Blue Pacific.
Fiji Airports Chief Executive Officer, Mesake Nawari said the presentation of the updated master plan to the Government is crucial given the fact that major works is scheduled to begin soon.
“We are presenting the updated master plan by Landrum & Brown (L&B), one of the world's oldest and most accomplished aviation planning consultancy firms to the Hon Prime Minister and Minister for Public Enterprises which Fiji Airports comes under,” Mr Nawari said.
“This is an updated one (Master Plan) for the next 25 years and one of the biggest works that will happen is from 2025 to 2033 with an estimated cost of $1 billion FJD.
“Presenting this master plan to the Prime Minister is necessary as it allowed us to provide an insight of the major works scheduled to commence from next year.”
Works on the master plan falls in line as well with Fiji Airports’ recognition of its 25th anniversary journey in April this year.
Fiji Airports has also earlier announced that 18 projects are in the pipeline as part of the Nadi International Airport Master Plan 2024-2033.
This includes upgrading existing facilities and infrastructure, construction of new gates, as well as a new state-of-the-art domestic terminal, extension and construction of new car parking lots and new aerobridges to replace the existing passenger boarding tunnels.
The master plan also includes the implementation of the fleet replacement plan with the delivery of the first lot of 14 electrical vehicles (EVs) for Nadi International Airport earlier this year.
It also includes departure lounge extension, additional off gate aprons, new gates and domestic apron extension.
The plan also includes the new transit hotel, commercial and retail building and new car park, Photovoltaic solar — ground mount array solar farm, computerised tomography scan (CTS) technology, common use self-service and terminal equipment and flight information display system upgrade of the communication, navigation and surveillance systems upgrade and improving the aviation rescue and firefighting services facilities.
Mr Nawari said Fiji Airports being a fully-owned Government Commercial Company has been managing the country’s15 airports — the Fiji Airports-owned Nadi International airport and the Government-owned Nausori and 13 other domestic airports and putting the master plan to fruition will fuel economic growth in the country.
