First-ever ACI APEX Review Conducted in Saudi Arabia on Environmental Enhancement Initiatives
- 2025-02-25
The Airports Council International's Airport Excellence Programme (APEX) environmental review was successfully carried out at King Abdulaziz International Airport, from 16-20 February 2025, hosted by Jeddah Airports Company. This is the first-ever APEX review dedicated in enhancing sustainability and environment in the region.
In collaboration with environmental sustainability experts from Queen Alia International Airport, Athens International Airport, Helsinki Airport and ACI APAC & MID, the evaluation aimed to assess and mitigate the airport’s environmental impact.
The objective is to exchange industry best practices with the airport while ensuring compliance with applicable environmental regulations and standards. APEX in Environment assists airports in identifying their current status, potential risks, and areas for improvement.
The programme provides tailored recommendations to enhance existing initiatives and infrastructure, supporting airports in advancing their environmental sustainability.
This programme is adaptable to the airport's scale and operational structure. Conducted on-site by a team of industry professionals, the review focuses on best practices across critical environmental domains. For those interested in hosting an APEX in Environment review at their airport or becoming a voluntary environmental sustainability assessor, please contact Mr. Ken Lau, Head, Sustainability, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East.
