Kansai International Airport BCP Measures; Kansai Airports Wins the Osaka Governor’s Award For the Climate Change Action Awards

  • 2023-03-17

Kansai Airports is pleased to announce that we have been selected as the Osaka Governor's Award winner for the 2022 Osaka Climate Change Action Awards.

The "Osaka Climate Change Award" is given to companies with offices in Osaka Prefecture or their business facilities that have made outstanding efforts to set an example for others regarding climate change countermeasures and heat island effect mitigation.

In response to the damage caused by Typhoon Jebi in September 2018, Kansai International Airport raised the seawalls around the airport island by adding the projected sea level rise due to climate change to the usual amount of raising, as well as installing wave-dissipating  blocks, raising electrical equipment to above ground level, and installing large scale water cut off barriers.

The award was given in recognition of Kansai International Airport's disaster prevention project as the best effort in the field of application from comprehensive perspectives such as sustainability and ripple effects.

This disaster management project aims to mitigate and contain the effects of natural disasters, such as unexpected typhoons that have become larger due to climate change, and minimize
their impact on the Kansai economy.

Kansai Airports Group will continue to work with stakeholders of the airports to create a safe and secure environment for our airport users.
