Major projects program to support soaring passenger numbers at Perth Airport

  • 2024-07-12

Western Australia’s aviation sector is soaring with Perth Airport recording its highest ever annual passenger numbers in FY24, breaking the 16-million passenger mark for the first time.

In FY24 more than 16.1 million passengers travelled through Perth Airport, easily outstripping the previous record figure of 14.9 million in FY14.

Perth Airport CEO Jason Waters said the numbers highlighted the extraordinary work that has gone into attracting airlines to Western Australia to support our important tourism, resource and export sectors.

“Our rebound from the Covid pandemic has been nothing short of amazing,” Mr Waters said.

“We have added more than ten million passengers since FY21 and in doing so have easily broken a record that has stood for a decade.

“The remarkable thing is we expect this growth to continue as airlines continue to show their confidence in the Western Australian market.

“We are now getting on with the job of investing more than $5 billion in new infrastructure to provide the additional capacity our airline partners need to grow their businesses.

“Over the coming decade we will expand the international terminal, and build new domestic terminal facilities, a parallel runway, two multi-storey carparks and our first airport hotel.

“This will deliver one airport for the people of Western Australia which will host all flight services in a central location giving passengers a seamless, world-class travel experience.

“Works will also begin later this month on our first multi-storey car park outside of Terminal 1 in the current Short Term Car park.

“We’ve also started work at Terminal 2 to add more departure gates and seating. We will also add more car parks and make changes to the road network around T2 to improve traffic flow along the forecourt.

“Unfortunately, with all of this work, there will be some pain for passengers during construction, but we ask that passengers understand that this is a significant investment which will transform Perth Airport and take us into the future.”
