Maldives Airports Company Ltd Officially Opens VIA’s New South West Apron

Maldives Airports Company Ltd officially opens Velana International Airport’s new south west apron on 17^th July 2019.

The 70,000 sqm of aircraft parking space is the 1st phase of 3. The 1st phase has 3 Code E Multiple Aircraft Ramp system (MARS) stands, 2 dedicated Code E stands and 1 dedicated Code C stand which will have the capacity to park a combination of 5 wide body aircrafts with 1 narrow body aircraft or 2 wide body aircrafts with 7 narrow body aircrafts.  Test operation was done last June 2019, demonstrating the maneuverability of aircraft and ground handling equipment to comply with ICAO safety requirements.

Work has already started on the 2^nd phase (south west apron) which will be around 60,000 sqm. This will include 4 MARS stands which can accommodate to 4 wide body aircrafts and 8 narrow body aircrafts.
