Nadi International Airport Earns ACI Airport Health Reaccreditation
- 2021-11-24
Nadi International Airport has achieved Airports Council International’s (ACI) Airport Health Reaccreditation for its COVID-19 health and safety measures.
Attorney General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said "Fiji Airports’ culture of COVID-safety has secured Nadi International Airport's reaccreditation by the Airports Council International as one of the safest and most health-focussed airports in the world. With more than 90% of adults in Fiji fully vaccinated and a careful re-opening strategy in place, we're more than ready to re-open Nadi International Airport in one week's time as the gateway of COVID-safe tourism in a post-pandemic Pacific, and I thank Fiji Airports management and staff for their consistent commitment towards a safe and sustainable restart for our aviation sector and our tourism industry."
Airports Council International Asia-Pacific Director General, Stefano Baronci said “We are encouraged by the news of Nadi International Airport being reaccredited under ACI Airport Health Accreditation programme. This reaccreditation serves to reassure passengers that internationally-recognized safety measures remain in place for the resumption of travel to Fiji.
“Fiji Airports’ efforts are admirable in the midst of a troubling year and as borders to Fiji begin to reopen, Nadi International Airport is well-equipped and on par with other international airports to safely welcome back travellers.”
Fiji Airports Chairman, Geoffrey Shaw said the reaccreditation is a significant announcement ahead of next week’s official opening of our international border.
“Confirmation of our reaccreditation by Airports Council International could not have come at a better time as we look forward to the resumption of air travel from 01 December. Nadi International Airport was the first airport in the South Pacific to achieve the ACI Airport Health Accreditation in November 2020. This reaccreditation will further enhance passenger confidence to travel to Fiji. Our priority is and will always be the health, safety and well-being of our passengers,” Shaw said.
“We look forward to next Wednesday with great excitement and to welcome our first Fiji Airways flight, marking the resumption of tourism. It has been a long wait and we eagerly anticipate the arrival of passengers back knowing they will be embraced with the genuine warmth and hospitality for which Fiji is renowned. We are expecting close to 30,000 passengers to travel through Nadi International Airport in December alone. The ACI Airport Health Reaccreditation provides our passengers the reassurance and comfort of travelling safely through our international airport.”
Fiji Airports Acting CEO, Isei Tudreu said the ACI Airport Health Accreditation is an important benchmark to achieve as air travel resumes under the new normal.
“The reaccreditation is such fantastic news as we countdown to 01 December. Our team has been working tirelessly to ensure our COVID-19 health and safety measures are meeting globally accepted standards. As an international airport, we have very high standards of hygiene and disinfection protocols. Each part of our airport process is assessed and scrutinised under the ACI Airport Health Accreditation programme. It’s a wonderful achievement to get this accreditation for the second year in a row. Nadi International Airport prides itself for providing a safe travel experience,” Tudreu said.
The ACI Airport Health Accreditation program provides airports with an assessment of how aligned their health measures are with the ACI Airport Operations and COVID-19 protocols. The reaccreditation is part of the program’s ongoing efforts to ensure health measures are established to meet or exceed global standards.
All passenger areas and processes are considered, including terminal access, check-in areas, security screening, boarding gates, lounges, retail, food and beverages outlets, gate equipment such as aerobridges, escalators and elevators, border control areas and facilities (in collaboration with authorities), baggage claim area and arrivals exit.
