Newcastle Loves to Travel With Airport Pumping Over Christmas
- 2024-12-23
With the festive season in full swing, Newcastle Airport is pumping with almost 100,000 passengers expected to pass through its doors this month.
Newcastle Airport CEO, Dr. Peter Cock said this holiday season ends a successful year for the airport which recorded its highest annual passenger numbers in five years.
“As an airport in a region which loves to travel, it is not surprising to see that our passenger numbers continue to grow despite industry challenges like the exit of Bonza Airlines from the scene,” Dr. Cock said.
“It’s great that we could facilitate so many Hunter residents journeys. More than 1.2 million passengers flew with the airport in 2024 showing four per cent growth from 2023, which is amazing when you consider Bonza operated in 2023. In fact without those Bonza routes included, passengers using Newcastle Airport actually grew by 7% year on year, making it a very successful 12 months.”
“Passengers will have noticed flights are full with Newcastle Airport recording its highest annual average load factor* in 10 years (*available seats filled). Our terminal is also a hive of activity and we are ready for it with staff in place to facilitate a seamless and enjoyable travel experience with us. Our volunteer Ambassadors are on hand to help with any questions – just look out for their teal jackets!”
To avoid any unnecessary delays, passengers are recommended to plan ahead, follow airline recommendations and traffic reports and arrive at the airport early.
Newcastle Airport Executive General Manager of Aviation Shane de Wit reminded people of the airport’s range of convenient car parking options. “With five different car parks catering to a range of budgets, we understand that a great travel experience begins way before you get on the plane,” Mr de Wit said.
“As well as being able to book your car park online, we are also pleased to offer our Long Stay Saver car park for drop off and pickup periods where family and friends can wait for free for up to two hours while they see loved ones off or welcome them home.”
In a nod to HAPPY HOLIDAYS, Newcastle Airport is offering 20%* off all car park bookings made by Wednesday, 15 January 2025. To take advantage of this offer, book online and use the code HH2024 and save. Enter by Friday, February 28 for the offer to be valid. (excludes the Mystery Car Park). Book your parking now.
Dr. Peter Cock said the steady increase in passenger numbers revealed great confidence in the airport from the region. “As the Hunter steps further onto the global stage in August 2025, when our international terminal opens, we thank our region for their continued support as we continue to forge ahead as the airport the region deserves."
