Osaka International Airport (ITM) to Hold Comprehensive Aircraft Accident Response Drill

Kansai Airports today announced that a full-scale aircraft accident drill using actual aircraft will take place on November 2, 2023 at ITM. 


The drill, which will be conducted in accordance with the Osaka International Airport Emergency Plan, is designed to confirm cooperation with relevant organizations and ensure prompt and appropriate firefighting, rescue, and medical activities in case of an aircraft accident causing a large number of injuries. 

 

Kansai Airports Group will continue conducting various drills to provide all airport users with a safe and secure environment. 

 

Drill Outline 
Date & Time: Thursday, November 2, 2023, 1:45 pm-3:45 pm *Drill will take place rain or shine, in general. 
Venue: Apron #7 (drill site); Crisis Management Office (on-site headquarters) on Level 8, ITM Office

Organizer: Osaka International Airport Emergency Plan Liaison Council 
Participants:  61 entities, approx. 450 personnel, 58 vehicles; 1 airplane (courtesy of Japan Airlines Co., Ltd.) 4 helicopters (courtesy of JGSDF, Hyogo Fire Fighting Disaster Prevention Air Corps, and Osaka Municipal Fire Department); 2 large buses (courtesy of HANKYU KANKO BUS Co., Ltd.) 
Scenario: An aircraft (Embraer 170 or 190) caught fire on Engine No.2 after landing, causing 
many crew members and passengers to get injured.

  4. Activities by the emergency headquarters 
  5. Joint coordination 
  6. Activities by the on-site headquarters
  7. Setup of a triage area, rescue command center and fast aid station
