SAA Met With the Overseeing Company for Consultations and Designs of the Expansion Project for the Passenger Terminal and Reviewed the Progress of Work

An engineering team led by His Excellency Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), visited Republic of Italy. The visit included meetings with the overseeing company for consultations and designs of the new passenger terminal expansion project and the central facilities station at the Sharjah Airport, with the aim of reviewing the progress of work in the project.

 

The visit agenda included a workshop with the Italian company focusing on an overview of the project progress, design, and execution aspects, as well as a visit to Milan Bergamo Airport to observe facilities designed by the company.

 

Providing more distinctive, innovative, and sustainable services in the travel and aviation sector

His Excellency Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), emphasized that work on the expansion project of the passenger terminal and central facilities station at the airport is progressing according to the planned schedule in all its construction stages. This is part of the major package out of 18 packages of various expansion projects, totaling AED 2.4 billion.

 

His Excellency Ali Salim Al Midfa explained that this visit aims to enhance the level of success achieved in the collaborative efforts between the parties, ensuring excellence in this strategic project. It will consolidate the regional and global position of Sharjah Airport, achieve more excellence in its passenger services, ensure optimal achievement of new expansion goals, and develop airport facilities by increasing its passenger capacity to 25 million annually by mid-2027. The airport aims to provide more distinctive, innovative, and sustainable services in the travel and aviation sector.

 

Implementing the highest levels of commitment to environmental standards and approved design specifications

During the workshop held in Milan, Italy, the SAA’s team discussed with the architectural engineers in the consulting company the supervision process of contractors’ work regarding construction operations to ensure adherence to the highest levels of standards and required specifications according to approved designs. This includes environmental standards, using environmentally friendly materials and devices in project implementation, highlighting Sharjah Airport’s commitment to contributing to the UAE’s initiative to achieve climate neutrality and reduce carbon emissions by 2050. The airport has succeeded in this direction by obtaining accreditation for reducing carbon emissions for airports from the Airports Council International (Level Three). The team also received a general overview of the key achievements to date, along with holding an interactive brainstorming session for exchanging developmental ideas.

As part of the visit agenda, the team visited Milan Bergamo Airport, which was designed by the same consulting company. They observed the airport building, facilities, and services provided to passengers.
