The Summer Schedule Brings International Traffic Back to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport

International operations resumed at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport on March 26, the first day on which 2023 summer flight schedule came into effective. In the morning, a ceremony was held at SHA to celebrate that international flights as well as flights to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan were restarted. MU721, departed at 0822AM from Hongqiao International Airport for Hong Kong, was the first one witnessing the international operations recommenced.

 

 

In order to resume the flights smoothly, Shanghai Airport Authority collaborated with CIQ and airlines in advance to make various preparations and carry out a number of drills simulating operation resumption. At departure and arrival areas of Terminal 1 of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, duty-free shops and food and drinks were also opened synchronously and promoted with a commercial event of "Meet the World Again".

 

In 2023 summer flight schedule, the total of 2,225 flights are expected to be handled per day, returning to about 80% of the levels of the same period in 2019, while 1449 flights will be accommodated at Shanghai Pudong International Airport and 776 flights at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. The schedule will also help the volume of domestic flights back to 118.5% of that of the same period of 2019 and that of international flights and Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan flights be recovered to 62.4% at two airports in Shanghai. Currently there are 92 airlines connecting 79 destinations in 42 countries. It is scheduled to resume air services to 11 international destinations including Boston in the United States, Munich in Germany, Milan in Italy, Jakarta and Bali in Indonesia, Jeju Island in South Korea, and etc.
