Yangon International Airport Implements Additional Measures at T1

  • 28 Jul 2018

Following unprecedented high passenger traffic volume during the morning peak hour at Yangon International Airport, a series of additional measures were immediately put in place to improve overall passenger flow at the entry ways.

YACL opened new entry channels, added security scanning equipment and increased manpower for passengers, visitors, airport staff and crew members at selected entrances. These have proven to be effective after thorough inspection and monitoring before the morning peak hour at Terminal 1, with smooth security screening and minimal waiting times observed at entry ways.

Measures include the following:

Departing Passengers can access Terminal 1 through:

  • One (1) additional screening lanes at Gate 2, serving check-in areas A and B;
  • Two (2) dedicated screening lanes at Gate 3, serving check-in areas A to D;
  • Two (2) dedicated screening lanes at Gate 4, serving check-in areas C to F;

Access to the public arrivals area of Terminal 1 through:

  • One (1) newly-opened dedicated screening lane at Gate 7, allowing the easy access for families and friends to receive arriving passengers;

For Airport staff and Airline crew:

  • One (1) new dedicated access and screening channel at Gate 2, to improve operational efficiency.

Eleven (11) airlines previously operating from Terminal 2 commenced operations at Terminal 1 yesterday, coupled with an unprecedented number of travellers during this long weekend for the Full Moon Day of Waso led to overwhelming passenger traffic. With the unprecedented situation, traffic at the airport surged to record levels on 27 July 2018 between 07:00-08:30, which led to passenger delays at the entry ways.

With the new measures in place without compromising security and safety, YIA looks forward to providing better passenger experiences to all at T1. T2 will be shut down until further notice for upgrading works.
