Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID), an association representing 624 airports, delivered two important presentations at the ICAO Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for Middle East region in Riyadh, highlighting the critical need for enhancing air connectivity and seamlessly integrating Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) into the current air transportation framework.
Macau International Airport (MIA) recorded more than 750,000 passengers traffic in the first quarter of 2023, representing year-on-year growth of 1.7 times. The flight movements recorded year-on-year increase of 57% with over 6,900 movements in the first quarter of 2023.
Three public holidays overlapping with both the New Zealand and Australian end of term break will see a busy few weeks at Auckland Airport. Bookended by Easter and Anzac Day, many families are jetting away before the cooler weather sets in with more than 800,000 people travelling across the school holidays. Auckland Airport Chief Customer Officer, Scott Tasker, said the opportunity to extend the school holidays with Good Friday and Anzac Day means passenger numbers are predicted to be just over 80% of 2019 levels across both the international and domestic terminals.
Brisbane Airport is predicting up to 15,000 passengers to pass through its International Terminal tomorrow (Sunday), representing a new post-COVID record, with international services boosted by 77% compared to this time last year.
International operations resumed at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport on March 26, the first day on which 2023 summer flight schedule came into effective. In the morning, a ceremony was held at SHA to celebrate that international flights as well as flights to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan were restarted. MU721, departed at 0822AM from Hongqiao International Airport for Hong Kong, was the first one witnessing the international operations recommenced.
Kansai Airports is delighted to announce that the number of international scheduled flights per week for summer 2023 is expected to be 869*1 excluding international passengers flights to China (55% of 2019*2, during September peak), supported by a full-scale international passenger traffic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis in East Asia and Southeast Asia and a continued strong international cargo traffic. The number of international cargo flights will be 211 per week, the second highest on record for the summer schedule.
Gold Coast Airport has recorded its busiest February since pre-covid with more than 429,000 passengers travelling through the terminal last month.
The total passenger traffic for the 3 airports reached 70% recovery from February 2019. The international passenger traffic is making further recovery, similarly to last month, especially with foreign passengers (53% from February 2019), and its recovery rate reached 46% from February 2019.

But with more routes and airports opening, it could only get better. This increases the country’s investment opportunities while simultaneously increasing job prospects.
