This week, the global community of airport innovators, start-ups, visionary thinkers, researchers and top tech minds gathers at Rome Fiumicino Airport for AIRPORTS INNOVATE 2024. The Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (KIAB or BLR Airport) recorded an impressive passenger numbers recovery of 82% since CY 2019 (pre-Covid year), with a total of 27.50M passengers travelling through BLR Airport in CY 2022. This included 85% recovery in the domestic (DOM) sector and 65% recovery in the international (INT) sector.
With the pandemic border restrictions loosened, the visitor arrivals surged significantly. During the Spring Festival Golden Week from 22nd to 29th Januay 2023 (1st to 8th day of Lunar Year), Macau International Airport welcomed over 76,000 passengers, representing a surge of 80% compared with the same period last year.
More than 3 million pass through BNE in December & January
It is the Chinese New Year Holiday from January 21 to 27, 2023. In these seven days, both Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport accommodated 10,681 flights, increased 17.3% compared to the same period of 2022 and recovering to 70% of the movements in the same period of 2019. Passenger volume of the two airports reached 1.35 million persons, up 74.5% year on year and returning to 60% of that in the same period of 2019.
Gold Coast Airport has marked its busiest summer holiday period in three years, topping off a momentous year with more than 5.7 million passengers travelling through the terminal during 2022.
Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) today released the 2022 traffic figures for Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). In 2022, HKIA handled a total of 5.7 million passengers, representing a year-on-year increase of 318.4%. Total cargo throughput and flight movements dropped by 16.4% and 4.2%, to 4.2 million tonnes and 138,700, respectively.
Brisbane Airport will enjoy a post-pandemic record today, with 14,500 people forecast to pass through the International Terminal as Queensland continues to enjoy a visitor surge.
Welcoming the Government of China’s decision to reopen border with quarantine-free travel, Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific reiterated its calls for consistent and harmonised approach from the Governments in response measures towards managing inbound travel.
International passenger volume, especially along with a significant recovery of foreign passenger volume, nearly doubled compared to the previous month (October), following the easing of border restrictions since October 11.
