This week, the global community of airport innovators, start-ups, visionary thinkers, researchers and top tech minds gathers at Rome Fiumicino Airport for AIRPORTS INNOVATE 2024. Airport International Group announced that Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) received 4,152,533 passengers (PAX) until June 2024, witnessing a 4.6% drop in PAX figures, as opposed to the same period in 2023. QAIA also reported 35,562 aircraft movements (ACM) and 38,424 tons of cargo, down 4.5% and up 23.5%, respectively, against the same period the previous year.
Domestic travel to the Gold Coast has never been stronger, with FY24 topping the charts as Gold Coast Airport’s busiest year on record for domestic passengers.
Macau International Airport (MIA) recorded significant passenger growth in the first half of 2024. From January to June 2024, MIA handled over 3.73 million passengers and more than 29,000 aircraft movements marking an increase of 91% and 72% respectively compared to the same period of last year.
The total international passenger traffic recovered to 92% in 2019, with the non-Japanese traffic reaching a record high of 1.62 million* on a single month basis since the airport opened.
Mangaluru International Airport, managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, the flagship company of the globally diversified Adani Group, has achieved a historic milestone in Q1 FY2024-25. The airport reported an impressive 21% increase in passenger traffic, with 552,689 passengers traveling through its terminals, compared to 457,859 passengers in Q1 FY2023-24.
Western Australia’s aviation sector is soaring with Perth Airport recording its highest ever annual passenger numbers in FY24, breaking the 16-million passenger mark for the first time.
Australian families have already been flying in for their school holidays and another surge is expected when New Zealand school holidays begin this weekend. However, the holidays are more spread out this year, so there will not be such a concentrated peak.

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) published the Annual Report 2023/24 today for the fiscal year ended 31 March 2024. The air traffic made significant progress at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) during the fiscal year. Passenger numbers and flight movements rose 264.5% and 92.1% respectively, to 45.2 million and 309,650.
