Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) today hosted the "HKIA Community Cycling and Running Competition 2025" to encourage a healthy lifestyle among airport colleagues and kick off a series of activities celebrating the centenary of Hong Kong’s airport development.
This is the third year the sports event has been held at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), with more exciting and challenging competitive elements than before. Around 1,000 representatives from 24 organisations of the airport community, including AAHK, government departments, airlines and other business partners, participated and supported in a relay competition that included e-cycling, e-running and fitness challenge.
More than 100 veteran airport staff whose careers span the Kai Tak and HKIA at Chek Lap Kok years were invited to join today’s event to kick off the celebrations of a century of airport development in Hong Kong.
AAHK and Civil Aviation Department are organising a series of celebration activities, including a public exhibition on the 100 years of airport development.
Fred Lam, Chairman of AAHK; Mable Chan, Secretary for Transport and Logistics; Tang Ping-keung, Secretary for Security; Victor Liu, Director-General of Civil Aviation, and Vivian Cheung, Acting Chief Executive Officer of AAHK, joined the veteran staff at the kick off moment.
Vivian Cheung, Acting Chief Executive Officer of AAHK, said, “The first recorded take-off from Kai Tak happened 100 years ago, marking a new chapter of Hong Kong’s aviation development. It is most befitting to kick off the celebrations at a challenging relay competition that embodies the spirit of resilience and teamwork, which are the hallmarks of the aviation industry.”
