Velana International Airports 52nd Anniversary Celebrations

Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) marks the 52^th Anniversary of Velana International Airport on 12^th April 2018. Since 12^th April 1966 Velana International Airport has progressed greatly achieving new heights with services upgrades and infrastructure developments. To mark the occasion, series of events were held to celebrate the airport’s anniversary.

The day started with an official flag hoisting ceremony at 0600hrs. The Managing Director of MACL Mr. Adil Moosa and Deputy Chief, Information Officer Mr. Moosa Solih did the honors and a ceremonial cake was cut on the occasion along with the senior management of MACL. The ceremony was attended by airport stakeholders and staff of MACL.

A new staff ID card was introduced along with kiosk facilities which staff can see their profile and other employee related visuals.  The first ID card was handed over to MACL MD and a presentation was given on kiosk application. The ceremony was attended by staff of MACL.

A ceremony on MACL minimart opening and MOU signing between MACL and State Trading Organization (STO) was held which MACL staff can enjoy discounts from STO outlets. The ceremony was attended by senior management of STO and MACL.

Inauguration of MACL Automated Cargo System also took place on the occasion of 52^nd Anniversary. This new system which was inaugurated by customs commissioner general Mr. Mohamed Shareef is a fully integrated cargo handling system with the latest industry standards. The new cargo system provides efficient and reliable service to customers who would be able to view on real time where the cargo is from any destination. The ceremony was attended by cargo related stake holders and senior management of MACL.        

Hand held mobile checking was inaugurated by Minister of Economic Development Mr. Mohamed Saeed today at Velana International Airport. This new service is aimed at special assistance passengers who would be assisted on baggage check in while the passengers can relax in their departure seats. The ceremony was attended Airlines and senior management of MACL.  

On the occasion of 52^nd Anniversary a staff night was held for staff entertainment on the night of 12^th April 2018.
