Airports in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East regions are setting new benchmarks in passenger experience. 35 airports out of a total 95 airports globally were recognised in the prestigious 2024 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards by Airports Council International (ACI). Collectively, airports in the region won 68 awards, across categories.
ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East had the privilege to be invited to speak at the 2024 ICN Global Aviation Security Seminar on 5 September in Incheon, Republic of Korea.
Airports Council International Asia-Pacific-Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) hosted a webinar to address the issue related to water contamination caused by traditional firefighting foams at airports. The event brought together airport operations experts from across Asia-Pacific & Middle East and Europe to share best practices and insights on transitioning to more environmentally friendly alternatives.
ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East delivered a presentation at the 12th ICAO Asia & Pacific Regional Aviation Security Coordination Forum (RASCF-APAC/12), emphasising the importance of the concept of security-by-design, which refers to the integration of security considerations in the design and drawing phase of any new or renovating airport infrastructure. The Forum was held in Manila, Philippines from 25-26 July.
ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East continued to advocate for environmental sustainability at the ICAO 8th Meeting of the Aerodromes Operations and Planning Sub-Group (AOP/SG/8), held at the ICAO Asia and Pacific Regional Office, Bangkok, Thailand on the 15 – 19 July 2024.
ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East hosted an environmental workshop, "ACI APAC & MID Climate Change Adaptation Working Group Workshop" on the 3 July 2024.
At the Sustainable Aviation webinar, jointly organised by Airports Council International (ACI), Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA) & Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), Mr. Ken Lau, Head, Sustainability at ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East, highlighted the Regional Environment Committee’s dedication to advancing sustainability priorities through data-driven analysis and member airport surveys.
In June 2022, Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) issued the 14th Five-Year Plan for General Aviation Development, which contains the roadmap for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) development, particularly, the development of the low-altitude economy, which refers to a comprehensive realm of industries center around civil-manned and unmanned aerial vehicles below 3,000 metres in altitude, including manufacturing, flight operations, and other integrated services.
The sixth Aerodrome Safety & Planning Implementation Group (ASPIG/6) met in Muscat, Oman from 27 to 29 May 2024. The meeting addressed various agenda items focused on enhancing aerodrome safety and efficiency in the Middle East region.
At ICAO’s invitation, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) participated in an ICAO security assistance mission in Bhutan from 17 to 21 June 2024.
